Stefan Dimitrov belongs to the generation of Bulgarian composers who established themselves in the middle of the 1970s. He graduated from the Music Academy in 1972. His first song "I sing because I want to, if you don't want to listen - don't", the lyrics of which were written by Blaga Dimitrova, Stefan wrote for the theatre group "4+4". His first song recorded in the Bulgarian National Radio - "Secrets", was performed by Emilia Markova in 1972. A year later Stefan joined the popular group "Studio B". He also worked with the Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio, composed orchestra pieces ("A Present for Orchestra"), music for the TV ("Infant's Birthday"), theatre and film music ("Green Fields", "The Opposite Side of the Sun", "The Adventures of Spas and Nelly", "After the End of the World"). In the 1980s Stefan Dimitrov worked with the bands "Variant B" and "Domino". Huge popularity gained his duets with Bogdana Karadotcheva. Lyricwise, Stefan cooperated with Mihail Belchev, Miriana Basheva and Margarita Petkova. Stefan Dimitrov authored the majority of the songs for the popular trio UFO. Throughout the years many of his songs won prizes from the prestigious festival Golden Orpheus. Celebrating the composer's 50th anniversary Riva Sound released a compilation of Stefan Dimitrov's greatest hits on CD and MC. The compilation includes the hits - "And it begins to smell of the sea" by the Argirovi Brothers, "She" - by Streetcar ¹5, "Ah, Canada" and "Like a Stone around the Neck" - by UFO, "Let there be summer" - by Tonica, as well as hits by Bogdana Karadotcheva and Vassil Naidenov, the hymn of the "Levski" football club and the hymn of New Television. The second compilation of Stefan's songs - "Samba 51", includes all-time hits performed by Vassil Naidenov, Bogdana Karadocheva, Tony Dimitrova, Vania Kostova, Yordanka Hristova and many others. Besides them also included are three previously unreleased songs - "The big games" by Vassil Naidenov from the eponymous TV serial, as well as two songs performed by the author himself - "I am a Levski fan" and "Samba 51", which became huge hits.
